The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG), in a statement issued on Monday, threatened to go on an indefinite strike action if the federal government fails to check the spate of terror attacks in the northern part of the country.NUPENG, whose members are involved in the loading of crude oil at export terminals and the loading of petroleum ...products at the refineries, jetties and depots, asked challenged President Goodluck Jonathan and his cabinet to find a lasting solution to the attacks or it will be forced to withdraw its services."The issue of insecurity in our country is posing a great concern to us and there is no way as citizens of this country, we will fold our hands and see where our sons and daughters are being killed like animals," Nupeng president Achese Igwe said in the statement."We challenge the federal government to urgently address the increasing rate of insecurity and corruption in the oil and gas sector; else our union will have no other option but to call our members to withdraw their services.”In the last few days series of attacks have been carried out in the country all with causalities.On Thursday, ThisDay Newspaper offices in Abuja and Kaduna were bombed with about three confirmed dead; on Sunday an attack on worshippers at a church service in Bayero University, Kano left more than 30 causalities; while an estimated 10 people were said to have died in an attack in Jalingo today.NUPENG officials said they are afraid for the security of its members who are engaged in distribution of petroleum products through trucks, from southern fuel depots to the north of the country.
