Bayern Munich welcome Real Madrid to Germany on Tuesday night for the first leg of a UEFA Champions League semi-final between two European heavyweights. The prospect of competing in the final on their home ground has inspired Bayern throughout this season's campaign and they have just one more obstacle to negotiate if they are to feature at the Allianz Arena on 19th May.Real Madrid will have other ideas though, as they look to set up a dream clash with either Primera Liga rivals Barcelona or manager Jose Mourinho's former club Chelsea. Both sides have great pedigree in the competition and have cruised through to the last four this year in fine style, sweeping aside opponents with the minimum of fuss.Bayern came out on top in a tricky Group A that accounted for Manchester City, before blitzing Basel 7-1 on aggregate and seeing off Marseille 4-0.Jupp Heynckes' side have struggled to maintain a domestic title challenge in the Bundesliga and could only draw 0-0 with Mainz at the weekend.Heynckes will be determined to prove a point after being dismissed as Real coach in 1998 despite delivering European success.
Arjen Robben was also shown the door by Real and is in line to start against his former club, with Heynckes able to call on a virtually full-strength starting XI after resting several star men at the weekend.Daniel van Buyten has been out since January with a broken metatarsal, while Breno is yet to play this season because of knee problems.Bastian Schweinsteiger, who is also a minor doubt, said: "It's all or nothing on Tuesday. We have to go to the limit and beyond, but we can do it with our fans behind us. "It won't be easy and it comes down to mental strength. I hope we show the mentality which marks Bayern out."
