A 45-year-old woman, Margaret Wisdom Effiong, (just like this old woman who sells babies too) who allegedly sells babies, has been arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command.
The suspect was arrested, last week, at Uruan Local Government Area, where she allegedly engages in the illicit business with her husband, Wisdom Effiong Mbaba, who is still at large.
Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, Umar Gwadabe, told journalists, in Uyo yesterday, the suspect and her husband sold babies mostly to those that use them for rituals.
Gwadabe said three pregnant girls and four others, with ages between 18 and 20, were rescued from the suspect’s hideout.
The suspect, however, denied the allegation, claiming her husband only carry out abortion for people.
One of the ladies rescued from the suspect, Aniebiet Sunday, said she initially wanted to abort her pregnancy, but had to be delivered of the baby, which she immediately sold to the couple for N70,000.
Affirming the command’s readiness to maintain law and order in the state, Gwadabe said: “We will ensure that Akwa Ibom State is made extremely hot and uncomfortable for all criminals and mischief makers.”
