Breaking: INEC Rejects Petition To Recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced via its X (formerly Twitter) handle that a petition seeking the recall of the Senator representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District has been rejected.

INEC stated that the petition did not meet the requirements of Section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

Section 69(a) of the Nigerian Constitution details the requirements needed for the legal recall of a senatorial member.

SUMMARY OF WHY NATASHA AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN’S RECALL PETITION FAILED

“The petition was signed by 208,132 out of 474,554 registered voters in the constituency.

This represents 43.86% as against the constitutional requirement of at least 50%+1 persons registered to vote in the constituency.”
